REVIEW: The Cuckoo’s Calling

THE CUCKOO'S CALLING - Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling)

“When a troubled supermodel falls to her death from the balcony of her London homes, it is assumed she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts and call sin private detective Cormoran Strike to investigate. Strike is a war veteran – wounded both physically and psychologically – and his private life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model’s world, the darker things get and the closer he comes to terrible danger.”

OK, this post is WAAY overdue. I think It’s been a week since I finished this book. Usually, it would only take me a few days after finishing a book to put a review up but for some reason, I never got around to writing one for this book until today. Granted, I have been somewhat busy, so let’s go with that excuse. ;)

Anyway, as most of you probably know, this book was published by JK Rowling under a pseudonym. I myself remember reading about it a long time ago but haven’t seen it around bookstores until last month, which was also when I got it.

Now, as far as mystery novels are concerned, this probably isn’t the best one out there, but it wasn’t exactly the worst either. I don’t know. I just felt that it lacked a certain sense of danger and action. But that’s just me.

The story itself was…nice. A bit boring and dragged out but wrapped up beautifully in a way only JK Rowling could have done. Although, I can be pretty biased so take that with a grain of salt. :) It’s written in the third person point of view so you get no clue whatsoever to the inner workings of the main character’s mind. You do, however, get to pick up the same clues he does, albeit with no way to possibly put them together like he did so the ending comes as a complete surprise (well, at least to me it did).

BOOKWORM RATING (2/5): bookheartsbookhearts

P.S.: This will be my last review post for the summer break but we’ll see each other again later on this year when I take my semestral/Christmas break. :) I will MIGHT write a proper goodbye post sometime before I start medschool though so stay tuned for that (or not). :P
